Mathematics Vision Statement
At Dean Valley, we believe that every child can be a confident and capable mathematician. Our curriculum nurtures resilience, resourcefulness, and a genuine curiosity for mathematics. Through a mastery approach, we enable all learners to reason, problem-solve, and explore possibilities with creativity and independence.
We celebrate the different ways our minds work, valuing alternative methods and diverse strategies as part of mathematical discovery. Pupils are encouraged to develop fluency and quick recall of fundamental number facts, empowering them to work efficiently and think flexibly when tackling problems.
Our lessons inspire curiosity about patterns and connections, allowing children to see the beauty and logic of mathematics in the world around them. By fostering confident, reflective, and inquisitive learners, we aim to equip every child with lifelong mathematical skills - enabling them to contribute to their communities and future workplaces with curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
At Dean Valley, we believe every child can be a confident and successful mathematician. Our mathematics curriculum is delivered through a mastery approach using the White Rose scheme, which carefully sequences learning to develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Lessons build on prior knowledge, strengthen recall of key mathematical facts and encourage pupils to explore, explain and justify their thinking. This reflects our vision of nurturing resilient, curious and independent learners who appreciate the beauty and power of mathematics.
