End of Year Expectations

At Dean Valley, we want every child to achieve their very best and develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for the next stage of their education. The end of year expectations for each year group are based on the objectives set out in the National Curriculum and outline what most pupils should know and be able to do by the end of the academic year.

These expectations help parents and carers understand the key learning that takes place in each year group across English, mathematics, science and the wider curriculum. They provide a guide to the age-related standards that pupils are working towards and support partnership between home and school.

Teachers use a range of assessment opportunities throughout the year to monitor progress, identify next steps and ensure that pupils are challenged and supported appropriately. While every child develops at their own pace, these expectations provide a clear picture of the essential knowledge and skills that underpin future learning.

We encourage parents and carers to use these documents to celebrate their child's achievements and to support learning at home. If you would like any further information about your child's progress or the curriculum, please contact your child's class teacher.

Together, we aim to ensure that every child leaves each year group confident, successful and ready for the challenges of the year ahead.
