Music at Dean Valley

Music at Dean Valley

Music is a very special and important part of life at Dean Valley.  All children experience exceptionally high quality curriculum music delivered by a specialist music teacher.  We enjoy singing together in regular singing assemblies and there is a yearly nativity and year 5/6 production.  These have included various nativities for Reception and Years 1 and 2 and most recently Grimm – a year 5/6 musical that took a comic look at the Grimm fairy tales.

Each child learns to play the recorder in Year 3 which gives them the skills to be able to join the school orchestra in year 4 onwards.  Our school orchestra is thriving and includes a wide range of instruments and over 50 players.  The orchestra plays regularly at school events and takes part in external events such as the Cheshire Show and music competitions.

We offer a range of instrumental lessons including piano, clarinet, flute and saxophone.

We enjoy performing outside the school, including at Young Voices at the Coop Arena, and regularly play at the Bridgewater Hall alongside the Halle Orchestra in their wider opportunities concert.  These are the sort of unforgettable experiences that inspire our children and give them the encouragement to take their musicianship to a high level.  We also enjoy performing for the local community, including at care homes and the East Cheshire Hospice.
