Year 4 2017 - 2018

Mrs Leicester

Mrs Heys

Roman Britain

We have been on a Romans & Celts History residential at Eskdale YHA. It was amazing! We walked up to Hardknoww Roman Fort with Carradosius and Lucilla and were met by at soldier. We explored a celtic roundhouse, we did an archaeological dig, we sorted our finds into a timeline, we designed shields and learned to march in formation and we even tried snails at our roman banquet!

The trip has inspired our writing, our Art & DT as well as our geography work since we were able to see the full course of the Esk rover from the North gate of Mediobogdum, with the Scafell watershed and many mountain tributaries visible to our right (East), the river meandering on the valley floor below us and the sea just about visible in the distance to our left (West).  We learned plenty of roman board games (that we LOVED!) and have used them to understand perimeter and area in maths too.  We still have a visit from a Centurion who is going to recruit us into the roman army in July.

Citizens of Rome should have their READING JOURNALS with them EVERY DAY and also come prepared for the following regular activities.  Any additional needs will be communicated to parents, usually via the Class Dojo.

Monday:            Indoor PE,  Homework (usually due on a Monday)

Thursday :        Outdoor PE

Friday:              Orchestra,  Swimming,

Regulation, named, indoor PE kit (black shorts and pumps with red or white T-shirt) needs to be in school all the time and long hair ALWAYS tied back. Thank you.
